Starfur paced back and forth in her den. The two-leg poison had really begun to worry her. What if every cat in the Clan got sick? Or worse? Every cat in the forest? The she-cat's blue eyes sparkled with worry, and she tilted her head to the sky. It was night now, and she had been pacing since before dusk, wondering, thinking, asking for guidance to no avail. She was truly beginning to worry. If she had not caught Wildstar's sickness in time, it could have killed him. How was she supposed to save the other cats, in the other Clans?
Her gaze traveled to Silverpelt, reflecting the brightness of the dazzling silver lights in her pelt and eyes. StarClan...What do I do? she thought, closing her starlit orbs momentarily. There was a rustling to the right of her den, and the wily apprentice, Mudpaw, stuck her mysterious eyes through the brush. “Asking for guidance?” she said slowly, a smile forming on her lips. Starfur nodded slowly, wondering how the apprentice knew so very much for one so very young. She would have made an excellent Medicine Cat.
“Yes,” Starfur mewed softly, her voice distressed. Mudpaw nodded, and came to sit next to the lovely she-cat, effectively stopping her pacing. “And? What has StarClan said?” Starfur sighed, and shook her head, looking weary and bedraggled. “Silent as the stars,” she mewed. “Perhaps I am meant to solve this alone. But I do not know what I can do. What if I cannot save anyone? What if they all die because of this?” Mudpaw merely smiled, her eyes glinting in the night, reflecting the vastness of Silverpelt and their warrior ancestors themselves. Starfur was struck by just how much Mudpaw must know. Perhaps the she-cat had a connection with StarClan that was, as of yet, unknown to all?
“There is always hope,” she mewed. “Things are not what they appear to be. Something is about to happen. Can you not feel it? And you, I, the whole forest, we all have our own roles to play. There is something sinister in the shadows...” Her eyes rose to the moon as it shone down upon the two cats, and she smiled once more, her eyes glowing in the dark. “Even on the darkest night, there is always light. All you need to know is how to find it...” She smiled mysteriously, dipping her head as she turned to go. “The answer will come in time, Starfur. Patience is a virtue.”
Starfur watched, slack-jawed and wide-eyed, as the brown apprentice padded away into the night, and turned her gaze back to Silverpelt, looking worried and confused. “Is she right? Am I really meant to know? What is about to happen?” she whispered. “StarClan...Show me a sign that you still care...” Starfur did not sleep that night, as the moon rose high in the sky. Her voice was as whisper in the night, and she did not let her eyes stray from the heavens above. “Show me that there really is hope...”
