The Origin of Flare

I remember it. So vividly. It seems like yesterday.

Bella was the most beautiful she-cat I had ever laid eyes on. I didn't care that she was a kittypet. I loved her just the same. After becoming her friend, we spent many moons together. I visited her everyday at her garden, and we would run together through the forest, having many a fun day.

Bella was an interesting cat. One time we ran into a fox. Bella wouldn't defend herself at all. I managed to fight it off on my own, but it hurt her pretty bad. I never understood it. It wasn't as if she was just scared, Bella just kinda stood there. I'd never seen anything like it. From then on I made sure I was extra protective of her.

I confessed my love and Bella returned it. One day, she gave me wonderful news. She was going to have my kits. I was happier than I had ever felt before. But she didn't want to have them in her twoleg dwelling. Bella wanted them to be born in the forest, so they could live with me and become strong. I didn't like it, but I agreed.

One day when checking the cave were we had been staying, I found her nest deserted. I immediately went looking for her. I followed my mates scent to the territory of StreamClan. I knew of the clans, I had found out from an old loner named Greytail. We didn't get along, but when I asked what was out there he described the clans, and he had sounded a little homesick. I wondered if he came from there, but I didn't push the matter. I haven't seen him since.

As I followed the scent another scent mingled with it. The scent of fresh-spilled blood. I raced towards it, arriving distraght to find my Bella, dead. Her throat had been ripped open. I was in a state of shock, and for a long while I just sat there with her, mourning her and our unborn kits, crying.

Soon my grief turned to anger. They had killed her! Those stinking pieces of mouse dung killed her! While she was with kits! And it was then that I vowed that I would kill them. I would kill them all, she-cats, kits, every last one. Until they had found the same pain they had caused me, I would make StreamClan suffer...
